Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC’s) are university-level courses open to the public. They’re offered by several startups as well as by some colleges and universities. An enterprising individual without the resources to go to college or the inclination to take on decades of college loan debt can receive a college education from behind his keyboard—minus the sheepskin.

Distance Learning/BYOD Learning

Many college students take courses from home (or Starbucks) and more colleges and universities are beefing up their distance course offerings. In the workplace, eLearning is moving to Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) learning where learners use their own mobile devices, called MLEARNING. Mobile learning allows them to learn on the job rather than at a computer terminal or on the run while they commute or stand in line.

On-Demand Learning

Much of today’s learning takes place when a problem presents itself and the learner searches for a solution. When a machine breakdown occurs at a plant, mechanics can pull up schematics and instructions on their mobile devices rather than leafing through hefty tomes.

Active Learning Personalized Learning

Self-starters have the ability to take control of their careers through active learning, social learning and personal learning networks, extending and supplementing their formal training.

Thanks to the multi-faceted arena that eLearning represents, students and employees are freer to direct their own learning than ever in the past, which leads to a more highly educated workforce.
