ADDIE vs. SAM: The Evolution of Iterative Learning Design

ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate) has long been a popular framework for learning and training design. Developed in 1975 at Florida State University as part of a project for the U.S. Army, ADDIE is used worldwide by corporations, public sector organizations, and educational institutions.

In recent years, however, a new approach has emerged as a popular alternative. SAM, or Successive Approximation Model, was created to be a simpler alternative to ADDIE, and in some quarters, it has become the preferred model for modern learning development methods.

In this ebook we’ll cover:
  • What is ADDIE?
  • Understanding SAM
  • SAM Model vs. Traditional Instructional Design
  • Choosing the Right eLearning Design Model
  • … and more!
